No more obstacles: Vilnius-Riga train to launch in December with daily service
LTG Link, The Lithuanian Railways Group’s passenger transport company, has received a safety certificate from the European Union Railway Agency for its operations in Latvia. Direct Vilnius-Riga trains will run daily, with departures from Vilnius in the morning and from Riga in the afternoon.
The certificate officially confirms that LTG Link is ready to organise an international connection between Lithuania and Latvia and that the company’s team has the necessary competence to operate and maintain trains on the Latvian railway infrastructure.
The international certificate
“The international certificate is like a licence to carry passengers in Latvia. In order to offer our customers their first trip to Riga on December 27, we have been constantly consulting and coordinating technical and operational aspects with Latvian Railways,” Gediminas Šečkus, LTG Link’s interim CEO, was quoted as saying in a press release.
The route offered by LTG Link will be convenient for those planning one-day business trips in Latvia.
The train will depart from Vilnius every day at 6:30, from Kaišiadorys at 7:14, from Šiauliai at 8:51, and from Joniškis at 9:30. The train will arrive in Latvia’s Jelgava at 10:06 and at the Riga Central Station at 10:43. From Riga, the train will depart daily at 15:28 and will arrive in Vilnius at 19:51.
LTG Link will start selling tickets for the Vilnius-Riga passenger train service on Monday, December 18.
